On the input side, the new M3x DAC carries two optical as well as two coaxial inputs and one USB input for audio signals, while it can give out the converted signal analog via either RCA or XLR – for the outputs, Musical Fidelity specifies low noise and a high output voltage, among other things. The DAC can receive signals up to 24bit / 192kHz, upsampling all other signals to this resolution before converting them, which is supposed to reduce distortion. The USB input can additionally accept signals up to 32bit / 192 kHz as well as DSD 256.
As a smaller version of the M6x DAC, the M3x DAC is supposed to follow its high performance. Furthermore, the manufacturer promises low transformer noise, a sound-improving inner layout, simple operation and a massive as well as stable housing. The D/A converter also carries two selectable digital filters.
The new D/A converter Musical Fidelity M3x DAC should be available immediately, at a price of about €1500 in Germany.
