Just like the standard version of the Pre Box S2 Digital, the "Pre Box S2 Digital Edition 2023" is a HiRes DAC with built-in preamp and headphone output that comes in Pro-Ject's very compact "box" format. Furthermore, the device carries inputs in USB, optical and coaxial, as well as a 6.3mm headphone output and a pair of analog RCA jacks; the DAC also offers various digital filters, among other things.
According to the manufacturer, the new Pro-Ject DAC carries various improvements; for example, the analog output stage is said to have been improved, and now provide more current and thus more power, and meanwhile consume little energy. In addition, the power supply has been improved, according to Pro-Ject, which aims to reduce possible noise, among other things. Furthermore, improvements to the clock are said to further improve the jitter as well as reduce noise.
According to Pro-Ject, the new design of the Pre Box S2 Digital "Edition 2023" was made by John Westlake, who already designed the original Pre Box S2 Digital. The DAC with preamp is "Made in Europe" and will be available immediately in silver and black at a MSRP of around €450 in Germany.
